Speeding Unrestrained Motorist Dies in Interstate 55 Fatal Crash

Kentwood - Yesterday evening, at approximately 7:40 pm, Louisiana State Police began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on I-55 northbound near the Mississippi State Line in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash took the life of Bobby E. Ross (B/M 59) of McComb, MS.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1994 Mercedes 320, operated by Ross, was northbound on I-55 in the left lane traveling at a high rate of speed. Ross, for reasons under investigation, drifted left, entered the median, continued down an embankment, and overturned several times coming to rest on its roof in a water filled creek.

Ross was not restrained and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office. Alcohol use is unknown; however, a blood sample was collected for a toxicological analysis. Those results are pending as this crash remains under investigation.

State Police continue to urge motorists to always obey posted speed limits, buckle up, avoid distractions, and remain vigilant while driving. Troopers wish to remind motorists that the proper use of seatbelts by everyone at all times continues to be the single most effective precaution taken to greatly reduce the chances of being seriously injured or killed in the event of a crash.
