TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE Traffic Advisory for Motorists Traveling on I-10 into and from Mississippi St. Tammany Parish – Today the Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), and the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) are announcing lane closures on the I-10 Pearl River Bridge at the Mississippi/Louisiana state line. The lane closures are to allow crews to repair expansion joints on the I-10 State Line Bridge and are expected to begin today, Friday October 17, 2014 at 7:00 pm and continue through Monday October 20, 2014 at 6:00 am. If necessary to complete the repairs MDOT and DOTD will repeat the lane closure beginning on Friday October 24, 2014 at 7:00 pm through Monday October 27, 2014 at 6:00 am. Drivers should expect significant delays on I-10 during this time. The Louisiana State Police, DOTD and MDOT advise drivers to take alternate routes, if possible. Alternate routes for passenger vehicles only include: · US 90 due to posted bridges Detours for all other vehicles are: · I-10 eastbound travelers may use US 11 north to I-59 north to MS 43 south to I-10 · I-10 westbound travelers may use MS 43 north to I-59 south to I-10 Louisiana DOTD has several options for motorists to gather information for this construction event as well as any time your travels take you into Louisiana. · Motorists can access up-to-date information about weather-related road conditions, construction activities and other critical incidents by dialing 511 from their phones. The voice-activated 511 Traveler Information System is available to most cellular and landline users. · Out-of-state travelers can access the system by calling 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511). · Motorists can also access this information by visiting the 511 Traveler Information System Web site at www.511la.org. · The new “Way to Geaux” application may be downloaded and used to receive real-time around the clock travel alerts. The hands-free, eyes-free smartphone application can be downloaded on any iPhone or Android device by visiting either the iTunes App Store or Google Play. DOTD’s Customer Service Center representatives can answer questions about road closures not listed above or any other DOTD-related questions. Please call (225) 379-1232 or 1-877-4LADOTD (1-877-452-3683) with questions. The center’s business hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Customer Service Center will be closed Monday, September 1. Particularly during this interstate maintenance, the Louisiana State Police urge motorists to allow extra time to arrive safely at their destinations, tune in to local radio stations for current traffic and incident information prior to traveling, never drive distracted, never drive impaired, and to always buckle up.
