Troop L - NEWS RELEASE May 12, 2014 Motorcyclist Dies after Colliding with SUV on I-10 St. Tammany - Last night at approximately 10:00 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatality crash on I-10 eastbound near Slidell. The crash killed a 29 year old motorcyclist after he was ejected from his motorcycle. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Joshua Roberts of Slidell was traveling behind a Ford Expedition operated by Ramiro Montoya of Slidell eastbound on I-10 in the left lane near mile marker 257. Roberts, for reasons unknown, approached the Ford from the rear, failed to yield, and the front of the Kawasaki struck the rear of the Ford. Roberts lost control, was ejected and sustained life threatening injuries. Roberts, who was wearing a DOT approved helmet, was transported to the Interim LSU Hospital LEVEL 1 Trauma Center in New Orleans where he later died. Montoya was restrained and was not injured. He voluntarily submitted to a breath test and no detectable alcohol was in his system. It is unknown if impairment is a factor on Robert's part; however, a blood sample was collected for a toxicological analysis. Those results are pending as this crash remains under investigation. Troopers urge motorists to avoid all distractions while driving. Distractions, such as cell phones, passengers, radios, etc., take a driver’s focus away from the road. When focus is taken away from the road, the serious injury and fatality crash rate rises. To learn more about the dangers of distracted driving please visit the government’s official distracted driving website, www.distraction.gov. Troopers remind motorists to make good decisions behind the wheel; buckle up each and every ride, drive sober and place your full attention on the road and other motorists. Contact Information: | |||
