ATV Crash Kills Franklinton Woman in Washington Parish

Franklinton – Earlier today, at approximately 12:55 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two vehicle crash that occurred on La. 450 and La. 16. The crash involved an all-terrain vehicle and claimed the life of Cynamon A. Warden (W/F 21) of Franklinton.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Kawasaki four wheeler operated by Warden was southbound on La. 450 and a Nissan Maxima operated by Margaret A. Harris (W/F 73) of Franklinton was westbound on La. 16. Warden was approaching La. 16, disregarded a stop sign, a flashing red signal light, and entered the intersection into the path of the Nissan. The Kawasaki was struck on the left side by the front of the Nissan causing the Kawasaki to overturn several times. Warden was not wearing a helmet, was ejected, and received life threatening injuries.

Warden was initially transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital and then air-lifted to the Interim LSU Hospital LEVEL 1 Trauma Center in New Orleans where she later was pronounced dead. Harris was restrained and was not injured. Harris voluntarily submitted to a chemical test and no detectable alcohol was found in her system. A blood sample was collected from Warden for a routine toxicological analysis. Those results are pending as this crash remains under investigation.

Troopers urge motorists to always remain attentive behind the wheel, obey posted stop signs, traffic control signals, and to properly buckle up. The proper use of seatbelts by everyone at all times continues to be the single most effective precaution taken to greatly reduce the chances of being seriously injured or killed in the event of a crash. Troopers remind ATV users about the importance of wearing a helmet when operating or riding on an ATV. Appropriate helmets can help to reduce injuries sustained to riders in the event of a crash. Information about Louisiana State Law regarding ATV operation on public roadways can be found at http://www.legis.la.gov/legis/LawSearch.aspx under Louisiana Revised Statute (LRS) 32:299.
