Slidell, LA- On the evening of Wednesday, July 24, 2013 shortly after 10:30pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash on U.S. 190/Gause Boulevard at its intersection with Cross Gates Blvd. in St. Tammany Parish. The crash took the life of a female pedestrian whose identity is yet to be released pending family notification.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as the female pedestrian was standing in the left westbound lane of U.S. 190 when she was struck by a 2006 Nissan Sentra traveling westbound with a green signal at the intersection. The pedestrian was transported to Ochsner Northshore Medical Center where she was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Impairment of the female pedestrian is unknown at this time pending toxicology results.

Driver of the Nissan Sentra, 31 year old Slidell resident David DeSalvo, was wearing a seat belt and received no injuries in the crash. He submitted to a breath alcohol test registering under the legal limit of .08g% for adult drivers.

Troopers are continuing their investigation into the events of the crash and working to identify next of kin for the deceased pedestrian.

Pedestrians and motorists alike are urged to remain vigilant while on area roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Louisiana State Law requires pedestrians to utilize sidewalks where accessible or walk along the left shoulder as far away from the roadway as possible. Pedestrians should walk against the flow of traffic, wear light colored clothing, and stay out of travel lanes at all times.
