| TROOP L NEWS RELEASE December 20, 2012 Unrestrained Ponchatoula Woman Killed in Head-On Collision Amite, LA – Yesterday evening at 7:30pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 16 approximately one mile west of Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash took the life of 25 year old Ponchatoula resident Carly Cutrer. Troopers’ investigation determined that Cutrer was traveling west on LA 16 in a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted across the centerline into the oncoming lane of travel. As the Pontiac partially entered the eastbound lane of LA 16, it struck a 2011 Buick Enclave SUV in a head-on collision. Cutrer was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver of the Buick, 38 year old Sean Zimmerman of Roxie, MS, was properly restrained and received minor injuries in the crash. Two additional occupants in the Buick, 63 year old Anita Zimmerman and 66 year old Steve Zimmerman, were also wearing seatbelts and were transported to North Oaks Medical Center with minor injuries. Toxicology examinations will be conducted for both drivers at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Driver impairment is not suspected. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
