Natalbany Motorcyclist Killed in Three Vehicle Crash

Tickfaw, LA – Yesterday evening shortly before 8:00pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a three vehicle fatal crash on LA 1065 near its intersection with LA 442 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash took the life of 36 year old Natalbany resident Carl Jones and resulted in the arrest of 61 year old Johnny Leboeuf of Bourg, LA.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Leboeuf was traveling south on LA 1065 in a 2004 Toyota pickup truck. Jones was traveling north on LA 1065 on a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle. As the Toyota proceeded southbound, Leboeuf failed to yield to oncoming traffic and entered directly into the path of the motorcycle while attempting to make a left turn into a private driveway. The Suzuki impacted the right side of the Toyota pickup resulting in fatal injuries to Jones. After the initial impact, vehicle debris continued forward and impacted a 2009 Ford pickup truck traveling southbound directly behind the Toyota.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and impairment is not suspected.

Both Leboeuf and the driver of the Ford pickup truck, 29 year old Stephen McGlothern of Independence, LA, were wearing seat belts and received no injuries in the crash. Leboeuf submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system. He was subsequently booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on charges of Failure to Yield while Making a Left Turn and Negligent Homicide.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving, never drive while fatigued or impaired, and avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. To report distracted drivers or other hazardous road conditions, motorists can dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular phone to reach the State Police office closest to you.
