Early Morning Crash Takes Life of Ponchatoula Man

Ponchatoula, LA- This morning shortly after 4:30 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single vehicle crash at the intersection of LA 22 and Firetower Road in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash took the life of the unrestrained driver, 35 year old Ponchatoula resident Aaron Rodgers.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that Rodgers was traveling southbound on Firetower Road in a 1999 Saturn sedan when, for unknown reasons, he failed to stop at the intersection with LA 22. The Saturn subsequently proceeded across the intersection and entered the ditch on the south side of the paved roadway. Rodgers was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to Northoaks Medical Center where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Driver impairment is unknown at this time pending the results of a toxicology examination.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving, never drive while fatigued or impaired, and avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. To report distracted drivers or other hazardous road conditions, motorists can dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular phone to reach the State Police office closest to you.
