Troopers Investigate Single Vehicle Fatal Crash in Tangipahoa

Tangipahoa Parish, LA- Yesterday evening shortly after 9:00pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single vehicle crash at the intersection of LA 10 and U.S. 51 near the town of Fluker, LA. The crash took the life of the unrestrained driver, 53 year old Tangipahoa resident Michelle Cooper.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Cooper was traveling east on LA 10 in a 2002 Toyota Tundra. As Cooper approached the intersection of LA 10 and U.S. 51, she failed to stop and proceeded across the intersection running off road and impacting a ditch embankment with the front end of the vehicle. Cooper was not wearing a seat belt and sustained fatal injuries in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.

Driver impairment is not suspected at this time pending the results of a toxicology examination.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving, never drive while fatigued or impaired, and avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. To report distracted drivers or other hazardous road conditions, motorists can dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular phone to reach the State Police office closest to you.
