TROOP L NEWS RELEASE March 21, 2013 Franklinton Resident Succumbs to Injuries Following Single Vehicle Crash Franklinton, LA- Following a single vehicle serious injury crash that occurred shortly before 8:00am yesterday morning, the unrestrained driver, 31 year old Ryan Hart, was pronounced dead yesterday evening as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Hart had been transported to the Interim LSU Hospital in New Orleans where he later succumbed to his injuries. The crash took place on LA 430 approximately 2 miles north of the Franklinton city limits in Washington Parish. Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Hart was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer south on LA 430 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the highway onto the grass shoulder. Upon leaving the paved roadway, Hart overcorrected to the left causing the Ford SUV to rotate and overturn several times before coming to rest. Hart was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the course of the crash. Alcohol and/or drug impairment is unknown at this time pending the results of a toxicology examination. The proper use of occupant protection systems including seatbelts and air bags can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
