TROOP L NEWS RELEASE April 2, 2013 Troopers Partner with Local First Responders to Perform“Consequences of Impact” Mock Crashes Over the next two week period, Louisiana State Police Troop L, in conjunction with numerous local emergency response agencies, will be participating in “Consequences of Impact”, a mock fatality crash program involving impaired driving. The proactive educational program, scheduled before each school’s prom, will include two vehicular homicide mock crashes conducted at Mount Hermon School in Washington Parish and Lakeshore High School in St. Tammany Parish. Students involved will act out a fatal crash scene scenario in front of their peers, allowing the student body to see first-hand the devastating consequences of impaired and distracted driving. Parents of the student actors will also be playing parts in these scenarios. The mock crash is meant to emphasize the dangers and consequences associated with impaired and distracted driving, the importance of proper seatbelt use, and the emotional suffering families endure when a fatal crash occurs in reality. Numerous state and local agencies will be providing their expertise to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Participants include the Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center, Lakeview Regional Medical Center, St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Louisiana State Police, St. Tammany and Washington Parish Sheriff’s Offices, Mandeville Fire and EMS District #4, Washington Parish Fire Protection District #9, North shore EMS, St. Tammany and Washington Parish Coroner’s Offices, Crain Funeral Home, and Keith’s Towing Service. Personnel from each agency will be available to answer all of the students’ questions at the conclusion of the event. Proactive educational initiatives such as “Consequences of Impact”, strive to reduce the number of underage DWI’s and serious injury and fatal crashes while promoting the importance of sound decision making and behavior.
