Pedestrian Killed in Tangipahoa Parish Crash

Loranger, LA- Yesterday evening shortly before 9:00pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash on LA 445 approximately 3 miles south of LA 40 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash took the life of a 26 year old pedestrian, Charles Favre of Springfield, LA.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that prior to the crash, Favre was walking in the northbound lane of LA 445 in a section of the highway without street lighting. As Favre continued north, a 2010 Toyota pickup truck approached him from the rear and struck Favre with its right front fender throwing him into the ditch on the east side of the highway. Favre sustained fatal injuries as a result of the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.

Driver of the Toyota pickup, 34 year old Frank McDaniel of Loranger, LA, was wearing a seat belt and received no injuries in the crash. He submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system.

Troopers urge both motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant while on area roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Louisiana State Law requires pedestrians to utilize sidewalks where accessible or walk along the left shoulder as far away from the roadway as possible. Pedestrians should walk against the flow of traffic, wear light colored clothing, and stay out of travel lanes at all times.
