TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE Texas Man Arrested with a Large Amount of Marijuana on I-12 in Tangipahoa Parish Hammond, La. – Earlier this morning at approximately 8:00 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L stopped a Ford truck for a traffic violation on I-12 near mile marker 40 in Tangipahoa Parish. As a result of the traffic stop, a Texas man was arrested for transporting illegal narcotics from Texas to Atlanta. Troopers stopped the Ford, operated by Matthew Llanas (W/M 37), after he committed a traffic violation. During the course of the investigation, a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 was requested and alerted to the vehicle. A subsequent search, by Troopers, revealed approximately 200 pounds of marijuana with an approximate street value of $200,000.00. Llanas was booked in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite for the traffic violation and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. This arrest serves as a reminder to all citizens and visitors of Louisiana that Louisiana State Troopers will continue to provide safe communities through proactive enforcement. Troopers will target drug trafficking organizations by enforcing all state laws.
