TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE
December 30, 2014
Pedestrian Struck and Killed on US 190 in St. Tammany Parish

Mandeville – Yesterday evening around 7:30 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian. The crash occurred on US 190 (North Causeway) northbound near mile marker 250 between Judge Tanner Blvd. and I-12 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash killed the pedestrian, Joseph Robinson III of Lacombe.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Robinson (B/M 27) was wearing dark clothing while attempting to retrieve a ladder that fell from the back of his truck. A 2008 Toyota Highlander, operated by Timothy Greenlay (W/M 64) of Mandeville, was traveling northbound on US 190 in the center lane. Robinson approached the ladder in the center lane and was struck by the Toyota. Robinson suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to Lakeview Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Greenlay and his 14 year old passenger were both restrained and received no injuries. Greenlay submitted to a breath test which indicated there was no alcohol in his system. Impairment is not suspected on Robinson’s part; however, a toxicological analysis is pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain vigilant while on roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Louisiana State Law requires pedestrians to utilize sidewalks where accessible or walk along the left shoulder as far away from the roadway as possible. Pedestrians should walk against the flow of traffic, wear light colored clothing, and stay out of travel lanes at all times. As the New Year holiday approaches, Troopers urge motorists to make good decisions behind the wheel; buckle up each and every ride, drive sober and place your full attention on the road.
