| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Overturned Tanker Closes State Highway for Hours DONALDSONVILLE – Louisiana State Troopers have been on the scene of a one-vehicle crash that occurred on LA 70 at LA 3127 shortly before 8:00 am this morning. When Troopers arrived to the crash scene, they immediately closed the roadway to traffic and notified the Louisiana State Police Hazmat Unit. A 2003 Freightliner tanker truck loaded with nearly four thousand gallons of Sulphuric Acid had overturned, was lying on its side in the ditch at the intersection of LA 70 and LA 3127, and was leaking the corrosive material. Troopers determined through investigation that the Freightliner, being driven by Phillip Vallare (B/M, age 37) of Laplace, was traveling west on LA 3127, approaching LA 70 in dense fog. Vallare failed to stop at the intersection, swerved to the left, crossed LA 70 as the Freightliner began to rotate counter-clockwise, and entered the ditch along the west edge of LA 70. The truck and trailer overturned and came to rest on its right side in the ditch after striking a utility pole. Vallare was properly restrained and suffered minor injuries because of the crash. | |||
