TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE October 22, 2016 Unlicensed Driver Cited in Two Vehicle Fatal Crash on LA 442 Loranger, LA- A seventeen year-old driver and her mother have both been cited in a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA 442 at the intersection of LA 40 in Loranger, LA. The crash transpired shortly after 10:30 AM on Saturday October 22, 2016. A 15 year-old passenger, Trent Perrin, from Loranger, LA, was killed in the crash. The preliminary investigation led Troopers to determine that 17 year-old Hannah Chedville of Hammond, LA was driving a 2006 Hummer HU2 eastbound on LA 442. Chedville was driving in place of her mother and front seat passenger, 46 year-old Leslie Glass, also of Hammond, LA. Through the course of the investigation, Troopers were informed that Glass knowingly permitted her unlicensed daughter to drive the vehicle. As Chedville approached the intersection of LA 442 and LA 40, she came to a stop. The intersection is controlled by a flashing yellow light for east and westbound traffic on LA 442. North and southbound traffic is controlled by a flashing yellow light. Chedville entered the intersection into the path of a southbound Freightliner fertilizer spreader truck operated by 50 year-old Marc L. Lanier of Amite, LA. The front of the Freightliner crashed head-on into the left side of the Hummer in a right angle collision. The impact caused the Hummer to overturn onto its right side. Chedville and her mother, Leslie Glass were both properly restrained at the time of the crash. They both sustained minor injuries in the crash and were each transported to North Oaks Health Systems. Trent Perrin was seated in the in the right rear seat of the Hummer prior to impact. Perrin was unrestrained and partially ejected out of the right rear window during the crash sequence. Perrin sustained critical injuries and was transported to North Oaks Health Systems by Acadian Air Med. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Perrin succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash. Marc L. Lanier, the driver of the Freightliner, was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Lanier sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to North Oaks Health Systems. Impairment is presently not suspected as a contributing factor in this crash. As part of the on-going investigation, blood samples were obtained from both drivers. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Chedville was cited for Failure to Yield and No Driver’s License. Glass was cited for allowing an Unlicensed Driver to Operate a Vehicle. The Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney’s Office will be consulted in reference to further charges pending the completion of the crash investigation. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L have investigated three separate fatal crashes this weekend.
