Troopers Make Arrest in Fatal Hit and Run Crash that Killed Hammond Area Skateboarder

Hammond, LA- Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L have made an arrest in connection to a fatal hit and run crash which initially took place on LA 3234 on Wednesday May 11, 2016. The crash claimed the life of 26 year-old Erin Gerhard of Independence, LA. On Wednesday July 20, 2016, Troopers secured an arrest warrant for 37 year old Vincent Young of Natalbany, LA.

Based on forensic evidence, witness statements, assistance from the public and investigative means, Troopers were able to secure an arrest warrant for Young for Felony Hit and Run, Driving Under Suspension and No License Plate. Young was booked into the Amite Jail on Wednesday July 20, 2016. The investigation is on-going and Troopers are still seeking information pertaining to a light colored truck which may have been involved in the crash. Troopers in Hammond Seek Public’s Help in Fatal Hit and Run Crash
Hammond, LA- Troopers have identified a person of interest to a fatal hit and run crash that occurred on LA 3234. west of US 51 in Hammond on May 11, 2016. Troopers believe this individual may have information relating to the crash. He is described as a black male driving a dark colored four-door sedan, possibly a Pontiac Grand Prix. He was last seen at a gas station in the area shortly after the crash. Anyone with information pertaining to this individual’s identity is encouraged to contact Louisiana State Police Troop L at 985-893-6250.

Troopers in Hammond Seek Public’s Help in Fatal Hit and Run Crash

Hammond, LA- Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L are requesting assistance from the public in investigating a fatal hit and run crash. The crash occurred shortly after 10:00 pm on Wednesday May 11, 2016 on LA 3234 [University Ave.] west of US 51. The crash has claimed the life of 26 year-old Erin Gerhard of Independence, LA.

The preliminary on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine that Gerhard was riding a skateboard in the right westbound lane of University Ave, when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. After the impact, Gerhard was thrown into the left westbound lane, where he was struck by another vehicle. Both vehicles fled the scene after the crash. Gerhard was severely injured in the crash and was pronounced deceased on-scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. As part of the on-going investigation, Troopers obtained blood samples. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Presently, Troopers are seeking a truck and a dark colored sedan. Anyone with any information pertaining to the crash is encouraged to contact the Louisiana State Police Troop L at 985-893-6250.
