TROOP L NEWS RELEASE
June 8, 2017
Bicyclist Killed in Crash on US 190

Lacombe- At approximately 4:25 PM, on Thursday June 8, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a crash involving a bicycle on US 190 at the intersection of N. Tranquility Rd. in St. Tammany Parish. The cyclist was killed in the crash. Troopers are withholding the cyclist’s identification pending notification to the next of kin.

The on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine the cyclist was riding a Huffy bicycle southbound on N. Tranquility Rd. The cyclist approached the intersection of US 190 and failed to stop at the stop sign. The cyclists then crossed into the eastbound lane of US 190 where it was struck by a 2008 Cadillac CTS driven by 60-year-old Pamela A. Mcginity of Lacombe. The cyclist was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe injuries in the crash. The cyclist was transported by Acadian Air-Med to University Hospital. At 6:03 PM Doctors pronounced the cyclist deceased. Mcginity was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash. Neither alcohol nor drug use is suspected for Mcginity. As part of the on-going investigation, Troopers obtained blood samples. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind bicyclists to never assume that a motorist can see you. Simple precautions such as wearing an approved bicycle helmet, reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are key to preventing crashes and avoiding injuries. Louisiana law requires bicyclists to remain as close to the right of side of the roadway as possible and obey all traffic laws.
