Pedestrian Killed Crossing Interstate 10 near Gause Boulevard

Slidell- Shortly before 7:00 PM on Sunday May 28, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 10 East near Gause Blvd. The crash claimed the life of 28-year-old Gregory Lance Britt of Covington.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Britt was attempting to cross Interstate 10. As he entered the left eastbound lane, he was struck by a 2000 Toyota Solara driven by 22-year-old Briana Renae Butler of Covington. Britt was killed on impact. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Butler and her two passengers were properly restrained at the time of the crash. They were each transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in this crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were obtained. The results are pending scientific analysis.

Louisiana Law prohibits any pedestrian from crossing an interstate highway, except in the case of an emergency. Aside from being illegal, it is difficult to judge intestate speeds and cross multiple lanes of traffic. Furthermore, pedestrian visibility to vehicles traveling at interstate speeds is significantly reduced. Should you find yourself in such a situation, please call 911 or *LSP [577] to be connected to your nearest Troop.
