| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE November 30, 2009 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash PORT ALLEN – A Port Allen man was killed yesterday evening when he was ejected from his vehicle during a three-vehicle crash on LA 1 near LA 989-1. Just after 6:00 p.m., David Anding (W/M, age 57) of Port Allen was driving a 2001 GMC Pickup south on LA 1 when he began to cross the northbound lanes. Anding crossed into the oncoming path of a 1999 GMC Pickup, being driven by Brennon Lyons (W/M, age 19) of Addis. Lyons’ pickup struck the right side of Anding’s pickup and Anding was thrown from the vehicle onto the roadway. Lyons’ pickup began to rotate and struck the front left fender of a 1997 Chevrolet Pickup, being driven by Blake Panepinto (W/M, age 20) of Addis. Both Lyons and Panepinto were properly restrained when the crash occurred and were not impaired. Anding was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, and was seriously injured. He was transported to the Baton Rouge General Hospital (Mid-City), where he later died as a result of his injuries. Troopers suspect that Anding was impaired and have submitted a sample of his blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. This is the second crash in two days in the Troop A area where an unrestrained occupant has been ejected and killed. Troopers continue to see serious injuries and deaths across the state resulting from ejections during crashes. There were three people involved in this crash, and the two wearing seat belts are still alive today. Statistics show that the safest place to be during a vehicle crash is INSIDE the vehicle. The ONLY way to ensure that you remain inside the vehicle is to be properly restrained. BUCKLE UP, SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!! Contact Information: Tpr Russell G.
