TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE May 3, 2016 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single Vehicle Crash on LA 437 Covington, LA- Shortly after 11:00 PM on Monday May 2, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on LA 437 south of LA 40. The crash claimed the life of 38 year-old Mohssen Hajighassem Jr. of Westwego. On-scene evidence led crash investigators to determine that Hajighassem was driving a 2007 Lexus northbound on LA 437. Hajighassem’s vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and traveled off the left side of the roadway. Hajighassem over-correct to the right, causing his vehicle to re-enter the roadway and travel off the right side of LA 437. After traveling off the right side of the roadway, Hajighassem’s vehicle impacted a ditch and overturned. At the time of the crash, Hajighassem was unrestrained. He was ejected from his vehicle and sustained severe injuries. Hajighassem was pronounced deceased on-scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. As part of the on-going crash investigation, blood samples were obtained and will be analyzed by the Coroner’s Office.
