TROOP L NEWS RELEASE January 2, 2014 Greensburg Man Killed in Single Vehicle St. Helena Parish Crash Greensburg – Shortly before 5:00 pm on January 1, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 38 west of LA Hwy 43 in St. Helena Parish. The crash took the life of 23 year old Ramario R. Berry of Greensburg. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 37 year old Lamar B. Williams of Zachary was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer eastbound on LA Hwy 38. For unknown reasons the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. Upon doing so the Chevrolet struck a culvert tree and then caught on fire. Williams was transported from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with moderate injuries. Impairment on his part is suspected at this time, and a toxicology sample was taken from him and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Charges are pending. Berry was transported from the scene to St. Helena Parish Hospital in Greensburg where he later succumbed to injuries received in the crash. A third passenger in the vehicle, 20 year old Brandon Berry (also of Greensburg) was transported from the scene to St. Helena Parish Hospital with minor injuries. Troopers are attempting to determine seat belt use for all three occupants. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
