Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE October 3, 2009 Update: Last night at approximately 11:30 p.m., the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office contacted Troop A and notified Troopers that Maria Barrios (H/F, age 54) of Ashburn, GA died. Charges on Leggett will be amended to four counts of Negligent Homicide, one count of Negligent Injuring, and Careless Operation. Two More Succumb to Injuries from I-10 Crash BATON ROUGE – Last night’s deadly crash on Interstate 10 near Siegen Lane has claimed two more lives this evening. Troopers were saddened to hear that Jacqueline Gomez (H/F, age 35) and Sonia Gomez-Brionca (H/F, age 27), both of Ashburn, GA, were pronounced deceased at the Baton Rouge General Mid-City Hospital Burn Unit this evening. Gomez-Brionca’s daughter, Alondra Brionca (H/F, age 2), was pronounced deceased on the scene last night by the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office. The driver of the pickup, Rito Gomez (H/M, age 22) and passenger Maria Barrios (H/F, age 54), both also of Ashburn, GA, remain in critical condition. Dwayne Leggett (B/M, age 32) of Baton Rouge has been released from Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Leggett is charged with 3 counts of Negligent Homicide, 2 counts of Negligent Injuring, and Careless Operation. Troopers suspect that Leggett may have been impaired, and additional charges are pending the results of Louisiana State Police Crime Lab chemical analysis of his blood.
