Troop L - NEWS RELEASE May 5, 2015 Troopers and Deputies Intercept 60lbs of Marijuana Destined for Abita Springs Abita Springs, LA – On April 25, 2015, US Customs and Border Protection Memphis Field Office intercepted an international shipment containing approximately 60 pounds of marijuana at the international FedEx hub in Memphis, TN. The parcel was destined for delivery to an address in Abita Springs, LA. The investigation was then turned over to the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division. Troopers learned the residence was owned by 57 year old Alfred Flint, Jr. On April 29th, Louisiana State Police Troopers partnered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office in conducting a controlled delivery of the package to the Abita residence. Once Flint signed for and took custody of the package, Troopers executed a state search warrant on the residence. As Law Enforcement entered the residence, 47 year old Hector Gonzalez, also known as Salvador Ordonez-Maldonado of Covington, LA, was observed removing marijuana from the package. Flint and Gonzalez were both arrested. A complete search of the residence revealed the presence of additional marijuana, a set of digital scales, a .380cal handgun, 2 shotguns, 2 rifles, and a brown prescription bottle containing Vicodin tablets. The handgun had an obliterated serial number, however a secondary serial number on the weapon revealed it was listed as stolen in St. Tammany Parish. Deputies with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office executed a second search at the residence of Hector Gonzales in Covington, Louisiana. During the search, deputies located a handgun listed as stolen in Jefferson Parish. Louisiana State Troopers will continue to provide the citizens of Louisiana safer communities through proactive drug related enforcement and cooperative efforts with local and federal law enforcement agencies. Troopers will continue to target local and multi-state drug trafficking organizations by enforcing all state and federal laws; however, continually strive for the cooperation and assistance of community members in the reporting of narcotics activities.
