Unrestrained Franklinton Resident Dies in Washington Parish Crash

Franklinton, Louisiana- Shortly before 5:00 AM on July 12th, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 450 in Franklinton. The crash claimed the life of 26 year old Benicio Perez of Franklinton.

The initial on scene investigation led Troopers to determine that Perez was traveling north on LA 450 operating 1991 Chevrolet Pickup Truck. For reasons still under investigation, Perez failed to safely negotiate a right hand curve and ran off the left side of the road. After exiting the roadway, Perez’s truck impacted an oak tree. Perez suffered fatal injuries during the collision and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office. Troopers concluded that Perez was not seat-belted at the time of the crash. Blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers would like to reiterate that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
