Troop L - NEWS RELEASE September 21st, 2015 Ponchatoula Head-On Crash Leaves One Dead Ponchatoula, LA- Shortly after 9:30 AM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a head-on crash on LA 22 at the Tangipahoa River Bridge. The crash claimed the life of 31 year-old Ponchatoula resident Danielle Marie Kulick. Crash scene investigators were able to determine Kulick was driving a Mazda MZ3 eastbound on LA 22. For reasons still under investigation, Kulick’s vehicle traveled over the center no passing line into the westbound travel lanes striking a Kenworth Straight-Truck driven by 48 year old Kevin Wayne Pete of Darrow, LA in a head-on collision. Kulick was not restrained at the time of the crash. She was pronounced deceased on scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Pete was properly restrained. He was transported to Northoaks Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. Troopers do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in this crash however, blood samples were obtained from both drivers. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. While not all crashes are survivable, simply putting on a seatbelt significantly reduces the chances of being severely injured or killed in a crash. In fact, research from NHTSA shows that in 2013 alone, nearly half of the motor vehicle occupants who died in crashes were unrestrained. The data from 2013 also reflects that there were 9,580 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in the United States. This alarming number of preventable fatalities is simply unacceptable. Please assist Law Enforcement in preventing these tragic losses by choosing to buckle up. Contact Information: | |||
