Troop L - NEWS RELEASE October 14th, 2015 High Speed Crash Claims the Life of Young Greensburg Resident Greensburg, LA- Shortly after 10:00 AM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L reported to a single vehicle crash on LA 1042 west of Greensburg, LA. The high speed crash claimed the life of 23 year-old Damien Jerard Carriere of Greensburg, LA. The initial on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine Carriere driving a Ford Crown Victoria westbound on LA 1042 at a high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, Carriere’s vehicle exited the roadway to the right. Carriere over-corrected to the left, causing his vehicle to begin to rotated counter clockwise as it continued off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then impacted a ditch embankment and became airborne. While airborne, the vehicle struck a tree and separated into two halves. Carriere was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He sustained severe injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office. Presently, Troopers do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in this crash however, a blood sample was obtained and toxicology testing will be completed by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Troopers have investigated too many fatal crashes on Louisiana roadways. There are too many grieving families throughout the state whom have lost loved ones as a result of preventable crashes. Troopers implore all motorists to buckle up every time, never drive impaired and to eliminate distractions. Aside from being the law, these rules could save your life or that of a passing motorists.
