Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE October 8, 2009 Driver Dies After Nearly One Week in Hospital BATON ROUGE – The remaining survivor of last week’s fiery crash on I-10 has died at the Baton Rouge General Hospital. The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office notified Louisiana State Police Troop A that Rito Gomez (H/M, age 22) of Ashburn, GA was pronounced deceased last night. Gomez was the sole remaining survivor who was riding in the 1994 Ford pickup that was rear-ended and caught fire last week on Interstate 10 near Seigen Lane. Dwayne Leggett (B/M, age 32) of Baton Rouge has been released from Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. State Troopers will adjust Leggett’s charges to five (5) counts of Negligent Homicide and one count of Careless Operation. Troopers suspect that Leggett may have been impaired, and additional charges are pending the results of Louisiana State Police Crime Lab chemical analysis of his blood. | |||
