Motorcyclist Killed in Two Vehicle Crash on US 190 West of Hammond

Hammond, LA- Shortly after 3:30 pm on Tuesday October 20th, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on US 190 west of Hammond. The driver of a motorcycle did not survive the crash. Troopers are withholding the name of the driver pending notification to next of kin.

Crash scene investigators determined the motorcycle was traveling westbound on US 190 west of Interstate 55. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle drifted into the eastbound travel lane, where it was struck head-on by an Isuzu Trooper. The SUV was driven by 32 year-old Robert Len Jones Jr. of Springfield, LA. Although the motorcycle’s driver was wearing an approved helmet, he still sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. A Blood sample was obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Jones provided investigating Troopers with a voluntary breath sample. Jones’ sample did not yield any trace amounts of alcohol. There are no pending charges in this fatal crash investigation.
