TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE March 21, 2016 Head-On Crash Claims Life of Kentwood Resident Kentwood, LA- Shortly after 7:30 PM on Sunday March 20, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L were dispatched to a two vehicle head-on crash on LA 38 east of Kentwood, LA. The crash claimed the life of 59 year-old Phillip A. Williams of Kentwood, LA. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine 38 year-old Matthew Jacob Peek of Kentwood, LA was driving a 2014 GMC Sierra westbound on LA 38. Williams was driving a 1996 Dodge 3500 eastbound on LA 38. For reasons still under investigation, Peek’s Sierra crossed into the eastbound travel lanes. Williams attempted to avoid the Sierra by driving onto the right shoulder. Despite Williams’ efforts, his vehicle was struck head-on by Peek’s GMC Sierra. Both drivers were severely injured in the crash. Williams was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center by Acadian Air-Med. Shortly after 1:30 AM on Monday March 21, 2016, Troopers were notified that Williams had succumbed to injuries he sustained in the crash. Peek was transported to North Oaks Medical Center, where he was treated for moderate injuries. As part of the on-going investigation, Troopers obtained blood samples from both drivers. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. At the conclusion of the investigation, the findings will be forwarded to the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney’s Office. Troopers continue to investigate too many preventable crashes on Louisiana roadways. Please take the time to speak to your loved ones about the importance of their decisions behind the wheel.
