| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE January 13, 2017 Unrestrained Driver Dies after Being Ejected in East Baton Rouge Parish Crash Baton Rouge, LA – Shortly after 3:00 am on January 13, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 426 (Old Hammond Hwy.) west of US 190 (Florida Blvd.) in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 26 year old Kenneth Salinas of Baton Rouge, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Salinas was traveling westbound on US 190 in a 2012 Lexus IS250. For reasons still under investigation, Salinas’ vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a culvert. After striking the culvert, Salinas’ vehicle became airborne and landed in a parking lot. Salinas was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Salinas sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is suspected to be factor in this crash and a toxicology sample will be taken from Salinas for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
