TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE April 24, 2016 Motorcyclist Killed in Single Vehicle Crash on LA 1064 in Tickfaw Tickfaw, LA- Shortly after 3:30 PM on Sunday April 24, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single vehicle fatal motorcycle crash on LA 1064 west of LA 1065 [Cherry St.]. The crash claimed the life of 52 year-old Michael S. McDonald of Hammond. The initial on-scene crash investigation led Troopers to determine that McDonald was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on LA 1064 west of LA 1065 in Tickfaw. As McDonald entered a curved portion of the roadway, his motorcycle exited the right side of the road and crashed into a culvert. McDonald was ejected. Despite correctly wearing an approved Department of Transportation helmet, McDonald sustained severe injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased on-scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. As part of the on-going crash investigation, Troopers obtained blood samples from McDonald. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Troopers remind motorists to be aware of your surroundings when traveling on the road. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when riding their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death.
