TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE

January 22, 2016
Two Killed in Head-On Crash on LA 25 in Covington

Covington, LA- Shortly after 6:00 PM on Friday, January 22, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L were dispatched to a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 25 north of US 190 in Covington. The crash claimed the life of the two drivers, 82 year-old Mandeville resident Edith R. Brown and 83 year-old Joseph Cyprian Jr., a resident of Folsom.

Crash scene investigators were able to determine that Brown was driving a 2003 Cadillac Deville southbound on LA 25. For reasons still under investigation, Brown’s vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and crashed head-on into a 2013 Lincoln MKS driven by Cyprian. Despite both drivers wearing their seat belts, they were both severely injured in the crash. Edith R. Brown and Joseph Cyprian Jr. were pronounced deceased on-scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Joseph Cyprian’s wife and front seat passenger, Lois W. Cyprian, was also severely injured in the crash. She was flown to North Oaks Hospital by Acadian Air-Med in serious condition.

Presently, Troopers do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in this crash. As part of the on-going crash investigation, blood samples were obtained from both drivers. The samples will be examined by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office for analysis.

While not every crash is survivable, seat belt use remains the most effective way to save lives and reduce injuries in crashes. Please buckle-up every trip every time, never drive impaired, and eliminate distractions.
