TROOP L - NEWS RELEASE January 18, 2016 Unrestrained Driver Killed on US 90 in Slidell Slidell, LA- Shortly after 10:30 PM on Sunday January 17, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L were dispatched to a single vehicle fatal crash on US 90 near US 190 in Slidell. The driver, 30 year-old Slidell resident, Preston Blake Marchant, did not survive the crash. Crash scene investigators determined Marchant was driving a 2006 Toyota Scion eastbound on US 90. For reasons still under investigation, Marchant’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and crashed into a tree. Marchant, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected from his vehicle as it crashed into the tree. He sustained severe injuries and was transported to Ochsner Medical Center - North Shore, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Presently, Troopers do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in the crash. As part of every fatal crash investigation, blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of wearing your seat belt every trip every time. Aside from being statutorily mandated, statistics show that wearing a seatbelt reduces serious crash-related injuries and deaths by about half. Please, do your part in helping to keep Louisiana safe.
