Morse Man Dies in Crash

Acadia Parish- Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on US 90 between Midland and Esterwood. The crash claimed the life of a Morse man.

According to investigating troopers, on June 17, 2011, at 3:12 p.m., a 2005 Chevrolet truck driven by 52-year-old Burton Hargrave of Morse, LA, was traveling west on US 90. A 2004 Chevrolet SUV driven by 17-year-old Becca Hylton was traveling east approaching Hargrave’s vehicle. For unknown reasons, Hylton traveled of the right side of the road, overcorrected, crossed the center line, and struck Hargrave’s vehicle head-on.

Hargrave was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner. Two passengers in his vehicle were taken to a local hospital and treated for moderate injuries. Hylton sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Three passengers in her vehicle sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.
