Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release June 19, 2011 Melville Man Dies in Crash St. Landry Parish- Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 105 near Coulon Street. The crash claimed the life of a Melville man. On June 19, 2011, at 3:29 a.m., 38-year-old Sam Yander of Melville, LA, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet truck north on LA 105. Yander failed to negotiate a curve and ran of the left side of the road, overcorrected to the right, ran off the right side of the road and began to overturn. Yander, who was not restrained, was ejected from the vehicle. Yander was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. Toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt.
