Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release May 14, 2011 Unrestrained Driver Dies in Crash Iberia Parish- Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 86 near the Teche Canal. The crash claimed the life of a New Iberia man. According to investigating troopers, on May 13, 2011, at 8:40 p.m., 20-year-old Ronald Noel of New Iberia, LA, was driving a 1999 Dodge truck east on LA 86. Noel was attempting to pass another eastbound vehicle in a marked no passing zone. Noel lost control of his vehicle and ran off the right side of the roadway. After leaving road, Noel struck a sugarcane cart and overturned. Noel was not restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. Noel was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner. Toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. For More Information Contact: Tpr.
