Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release April 17, 2011 Driver Arrested for Vehicular Homicide in Fatal Crash This morning, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on I-49 near milepost 13. The crash claimed the life of an Opelousas man. According to investigating troopers, on April 17, 2011, at 5:00 a.m., a 2004 Ford Explorer driven by 31-year-old Mashannon Woods of Opelousas, LA, was traveling south on I-49. For unknown reasons, Woods traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected to the left and crossed both southbound lanes of travel and began to rotate counterclockwise. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the road, entered the median and overturned. A passenger in the vehicle, 26-year-old Randall Frank of Opelousas, LA, was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. Frank came to rest in the northbound lanes of travel. Frank was then struck by two other northbound vehicles, which left the scene. Woods was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. She was placed under arrest for careless operation, DWI 1st offense, and vehicular homicide. She was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the charges after being released from the hospital. Toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. For More Information Contact: | |||
