Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release May 12, 2011 Carencro Man Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography Lafayette Parish- Today, Louisiana State Police detectives assigned to the Lafayette field office arrested a Carencro man for possession of child pornography. Last week, detectives received information from an area business that an employee was possibly viewing child pornography while at work. Detectives went to the business and conducted a forensic analysis of the computer. After completing the analysis, detectives found images depicting child pornography. Through the course of investigation detectives were able to learn the employee viewing the images was 58-year-old Byron Hernandez of Carencro, LA. Today, detectives interviewed Hernandez and were able to gather more evidence allowing them to secure a search warrant for Hernandez’s residence. Detectives, assisted by detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, executed the search warrant at his residence. They were able to locate images and videos depicting child pornography on a computer and other digital storage media devices within the residence. Hernandez was arrested for possession of child pornography and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center without incident. This investigation is ongoing, and detectives are not ruling out the possibility of more charges in this case. This case was a part of Operation Child Watch. The mission of Operation Child Watch is to rescue children from those individuals who prey on the innocence of a child. Troopers will continue to work with our local law enforcement partners to locate and arrest these individuals.
