| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release July 4, 2011 Morgan City Man Dies in Crash St. Landry Parish- This morning Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on I-49 south milepost 31. The crash claimed the life of a Morgan City man. According to investigating troopers, on July 4, 2011, at 8:55 a.m., a 1995 Nissan SUV driven by 46-year-old Daniel Turpin of Morgan City, LA, was traveling south on I-49. The initial investigation revealed that a tire on Turpin’s vehicle failed causing him to run off the right side of the road. While traveling down the embankment, Turpin’s vehicle began to overturn. Turpin was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Turpin was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Upon arrival at the hospital, Turpin was pronounced dead by the emergency room physician. Toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes. For More Information Contact: | |||
