Driver Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Early Morning Crash

Lafayette Parish- This morning, Louisiana State Police investigated a single vehicle crash on US 167 north of the Vermilion Parish line. The crash claimed the life of a Mississippi man.

According to investigating troopers, at 4:30 a.m., a 1998 Honda Civic driven by 30-year-old Richard Thompson of Natchez, MS, was traveling south on US 167. For reasons still under investigation, Thompson ran off the right side of the road, traveled through a ditch and struck a tree. Thompson sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance.

A short time after arriving at the hospital, Thompson succumbed to his injuries. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.
