Two Vehicle Crash Leaves One Man Dead

Yesterday evening, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on US 190 at LA 376. The crash claimed the life of a Eunice man.

According to investigating troopers, on October 26, 2011, at 5:40 p.m., 68-year-old Burley Soileau of Eunice, LA, was driving a Ford SUV north on LA 367 approaching a stop sign at US 190. A Honda motorcycle driven by 32-year-old Casey Cormier of Eunice, LA, was traveling east on US 190 approaching LA 367. Soileau failed to stop at the stop sign and drove within hazardous proximity to Cormier. Cormier struck the side of Soileau’s vehicle and was ejected.

Cormier was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. Soileau was not injured in the crash. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police reminds all drivers that State Law requires you to come to a complete stop at all stop signs, and not proceed past the stop sign until it is safe to do so.
