Two Vehicle Crash Claims Life of 12-Year-Old Boy

Vermilion Parish-Today, Louisiana State Police investigated a two vehicle crash on LA 35 at Liberty Farm Road that claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy.

According to investigating trooper on November 8, 2011, 11:45 a.m., a 2006 Honda Pilot driven by 33-year-old Casey Guidry of Kaplan, LA, was traveling north on LA 35 approaching Liberty Farm Road. A 2006 Freightliner 18-wheeler driven by 51-year-old Harold Richard of Church Point, LA, was traveling south on LA 35 approaching Guidry’s vehicle. Guidry was attempting to turn onto Liberty Farm Road when she turned left into the path of Richard’s vehicle. Her vehicle was struck on the passenger side by Richard’s vehicle. After impact both vehicles traveled off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Guidry was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. A 12-year-old male passenger in her vehicle died as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner. Richard sustained minor injuries. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana state law requires all vehicle occupants to wear a seatbelt. Wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to reduce their chances of being hurt in a crash. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
