Sulphur Man Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in ATV Crash

Today, Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified that a Sulphur man died as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash on November 24th.

According to investigating troopers, on November 24, 2011, at 4:35 p.m., a 2005 Cougar all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driven by 23-year-old Adam Burgin of Sulphur, LA, was traveling north on LA 1109 north of LA 98. For unknown reasons, Burgin ran off the left side of the road and entered a ditch. After entering the ditch, Burgin was ejected from the vehicle.

Burgin was transported to Lafayette General Hospital with severe injuries. At 1:30 p.m. yesterday, Burgin succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead by a physician at Lafayette General. Routine toxicology samples have been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Each year, hundreds of ATV riders, young and old, die or experience life altering injuries from incidents involving ATVs. Louisiana State Police reminds all ATV riders that the operation of such vehicles, which are not specifically designed for road use, are prohibited on all Louisiana roadways. When operating an ATV always remember to wear a DOT approved helmet, protective eye wear and appropriate clothing which can help protect you in a crash.
