Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release July 6, 2011 State Police Arrest Man Wanted in Florida for Attempted First Degree Murder Lafayette Parish- Today, Louisiana State Police Troop I arrested a man wanted in Florida for attempted first degree murder and other charges. On July 6, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., troopers working in St. Martin and Lafayette Parishes were notified about a vehicle traveling into the Troop I area. The vehicle, a 2007 Saturn SUV, was reportedly traveling west on I-10. Several troopers responded to the interstate and after observing passing traffic, troopers were able to locate the vehicle. The troopers stopped the vehicle on I-10 west of I-49. As a safety precaution, I-10 west was closed briefly while the troopers took the suspect, 45-year-old Jorge O. Ramos of Sebring, FL, into custody. Ramos was arrested without incident and has been taken to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. Ramos was booked as a fugitive from Highlands County Florida. His charges from Florida include attempted first degree murder (3 counts), burglary, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and failure to appear for carrying a concealed weapon.
