Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release July 10, 2011 Unrestrained Driver Dies in Single Vehicle Crash Evangeline Parish- This morning Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 106. The crash claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl from Ville Platte, LA. According to investigating troopers, on July 10, 2011, at 4:00 a.m., a 1999 Honda driven by 17-year-old Jeannine Shafer of Ville Platte, LA, was traveling east on LA 106 east of US 167. For unknown reasons Shafer crossed the centerline, ran off the left side of the road and entered a ditch. Shafer’s vehicle entered a canal then struck an embankment causing it to overturn. Shafer was not restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. Shafer was pronounced dead at the scene by the Evangeline parish coroner. Toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. This is the 43rd fatal crash and the 45th fatality Troop I has investigated this year. Louisiana State Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes. For More Information Contact: | |||
