Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release November 11, 2010 Church Point Woman Dies in Crash Eunice- Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle crash on US 190 east of Eunice. The crash claimed the life of a Church Point woman. According to investigating troopers, on November 10, 2010, shortly before 10:30 p.m., a 2000 Chevrolet van driven by 38-year-old Irma Daigle of Church Point, LA, was entering US 190 from the Cash Magic Casino parking lot. A 2004 Ford truck driven by 25-year-old Dustin Marcantel of Eunice, LA, was traveling west on US 190. Daigle failed to yield to Marcantel, and entered US 190 within hazardous proximity to Marcantel’s vehicle. Marcantel attempted to avoid hitting Daigle’s vehicle but was unsuccessful. Marcantel struck Daigle’s vehicle on the driver side causing both vehicles to leave the roadway and enter a ditch on the south side of the road. Daigle, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died as a result of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. A passenger in her vehicle, 40-year-old Clayton Bergeron of Mamou, LA, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Marcantel and a passenger in his vehicle, 23-year-old Johanna Daigle of Eunice, LA, sustained minor injuries. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers. The results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation. This is the 56th fatal crash and the 61st fatality Troop I has investigated in 2010. For More Information Contact: | |||
