Troop I News Release

November 13, 2010
Fatal Crash in Evangeline Parish

VILLE PLATTE, LA – This afternoon, at about 4:30 p.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 167 north of Ville Platte that claimed the life of a Lafayette woman.

According to investigating troopers, a 2001 Ford pick-up truck driven by 51-year-old Karen Patin of Lafayette was traveling south on U.S. Highway 167 north of Ville Platte when, for unknown reasons, she crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2004 Ford pick-up truck driven by 29-year-old James Ardoin of Ville Platte head-on. Patin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office. Ardoin was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries. Neither vehicle contained additional occupants.

Routine toxicology samples will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Troop I troopers have investigated 57 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 62 fatalities.
