Unrestrained Driver Killed in Crash

St. Mary Parish- Early this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle crash on US 90 near the Calumet Bridge. The crash claimed the life of a Patterson man.

According to investigating troopers, on December 4, 2010, shortly after 3:30 a.m., 45-year-old Dean Broussard of Patterson, LA, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet SUV east on US 90. A 1988 Kenworth cane-hauler, driven by 40-year-old Roshonda Thomas of Franklin, LA, had just pulled onto US 90 from a cane field access road. As Thomas was pulling away from the access road, Broussard struck the rear of her vehicle.

Broussard, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner. Thomas was not injured. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers. The results of the samples are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.
