Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release March 1, 2011 Unrestrained Driver Dies in Single Vehicle Crash Evangeline Parish- Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on Country Lane Road near Lake Cove Road. The crash claimed the life of a Turkey Creek man. According to the investigating troopers, on February 28, 2011, at 11:12 p.m., 28-year-old William Haviland of Turkey Creek, LA, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet truck on Country Lane Road near Lake Cove Road. For unknown reasons, Haviland traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected to the left, causing the vehicle to rotate and run off the left side of the road. After running off the road, Haviland’s vehicle entered a ditch and struck the ditch embankment and overturned. Haviland was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the car, 29-year-old Joseph Haviland of Turkey Creek, LA, sustained only minor injuries. Toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. For More Information Contact: | |||
